Abstract

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital anomaly characterized by abnormal blood flow from the heart in neonates. Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is frequently observed as the prevailing pathology among cyanotic congenital cardiac anomalies. Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) is considered to be an inherent element of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The dimensions and anatomical position of the ventricular septal defect (VSD) can serve as prognostic indicators, allowing for the evaluation of disease severity and informing decisions regarding surgical intervention strategies. Individuals diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) frequently encounter a deceleration in their growth rate as a result of the presence of both anatomical and functional anomalies in the heart. Hence, the assessment of anthropometric status holds significance in order to administer suitable nutritional therapy and rehabilitation. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of the anthropometric status and prevalence of ventricular septal abnormalities among children diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) at Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Regional General Hospital in Samarinda. The present study employed a descriptive observational design utilizing a cross- sectional study technique. The sampling method employed in this study was complete sampling, whereby data were collected from the medical records of patients diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) at Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Regional General Hospital Samarinda. The data collection period spanned from January to June 2023. Among the 56 patients included in the study, 46 patients fulfilled the specified inclusion criteria. The findings of the study indicated that 52% of the participants exhibited stunting and severe stunting, while 96% were diagnosed with perimembranous ventricular septal defects (VSDs), and 76% had VSDs of a big size.
