HUBUNGAN PERSEPSI TERHADAP PENYAKIT DENGAN KEPATUHAN PENGOBATAN PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE 2 DI PUSKESMAS SEGIRI

Abstract

Medication adherence in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus is important for controlling the blood glucose levels. One of the factors that affects the adherence of diabetic patient in medication is their perception about the disease. This study aims to identify the correlation between the perception of the disease and medication adherence in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at Segiri Community Health Center this study was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional approach. The subjects of this study were 47 patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 who were treated at the Segiri Public Health Center and were selected non-randomly by purposive sampling method. The instruments used in this study were the Brief Illness Perception Quistionnaire (B-IPQ) questionnaire and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). The study result shown that most of the respondents are in the range 54-60 years of age, female, last education in

high school, retired, uncontrolled blood sugar status, using a combination of metformin and glimepirid drugs. Most of the respondents had a positive perception (51.1%) and the most were not adherent to medication (51.1 %). The results of the chi-square correlation test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05). To conclude, there is a correlation between illness perception and medication adherence in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at Segiri Community Health Center.
