Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease that occurs due to abnormalities in insulin secretion and insulin action. Indonesia is ranked 7th country with the highest cases in the world with 10.6 million people with diabetes mellitus. As a countermeasure, BPJS Kesehatan established the Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS) which aims to improve the quality of life of patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. However, since the 2019 Corona Virus Disease pandemic in Indonesia, many people with diabetes mellitus have neglected diabetes management and have been too focused on preventing COVID-19. PROLANIS activities have also been hampered during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on blood sugar levels of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus PROLANIS. The design of this study was retrospective analytic with cross sectional method. This study uses medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus PROLANIS at the Wonorejo Health Center, Samarinda. The sample used was 35 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which were taken using a consecutive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Paired Sample T-Test. The average fasting blood sugar level before the COVID-19 pandemic was 157.66 mg/dL and the average fasting blood sugar level after the COVID-19 pandemic was 167.6 mg/dL (p=0.000). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant effect between blood sugar levels before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
