HUBUNGAN KADAR FERITIN SERUM TERHADAP FRAKSI EJEKSI VENTRIKEL KIRI PADA PASIEN THALASSEMIA β MAYOR ANAK DI RSUD KABUPATEN KEDIRI
Abstract
Thalassemia happens due to impaired production of one or more globin chains, resulting in anemia caused by short-lived erythrocytes. Blood transfusion is the treatment for anemia. Such condition causes iron overload indicated by the increase of ferritin. Thalassemia patients may have their Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction decreasing due to the iron overload, which can be toxic to the heart myocardium. This research aims to investigate the correlation between serum ferritin level and left ventricular ejection fraction in pediatric patients with major β thalassemia in Regional General Hospital of Kediri Regency (RSUD Kabupaten Kediri). This research is an analytical cross-sectional study with 52 respondents as samples. The research showed that the majority of pediatric patients with major β thalassemia (42 patients or 81% of the total samples) in Regional General Hospital of Kediri Regency had normal serum ferritin level. The majority of pediatric patients with major β thalassemia (42 patients or 83% of the total samples) in Regional General Hospital of Kediri Regency also had normal left ventricular ejection fraction. There is a significant correlation between serum ferritin level and left ventricular ejection fraction in pediatric patients with major β thalassemia in Regional General Hospital of Kediri Regency, indicated by the p-value of 0.000.
