Abstract
Laryngeal carcinoma is a form of malignancy that develops in the laryngeal tissue. Laryngeal carcinoma is one of the most common types of cancer in the upper respiratory tract. The epidemiology of laryngeal carcinoma shows a rising incidence in certain populations, especially in males and in individuals that are exposed to cigarette smoke or excessive alcohol consumption. Other risk factors that need to be considered are the exposure of certain carcinogenic materials, such as air pollutants and human papillomavirus (HPV). This study is designed to determine the relationship between smoking, alcohol consumption, and age with laryngeal carcinoma. It is a analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach conducted at the Internal Medicine Clinic of Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Samarinda Hospital. There were 65 samples that fit the inclusion criteria. The characteristics with the largest number of samples obtained the results of age with high risk group of 50 (76.9%), gender of 60 (92.3%) in males, smoking history found to be smokers by 48 (73.8%), history of alcohol consumption found 42 (64.6%) in the category of consuming alcohol and the most histopathological type with squamous cell carcinoma as many as 62 (95.4%).
