Abstract
Appendicitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory process that occurs in the vermiform appendix due to obstruction that occurs in the lumen of the appendix. In general, unhealthy foods such as low-fiber foods and fast food can cause constipation, resulting in mechanical obstruction and increasing the risk of acute appendicitis. This study aims to determine the relationship between eating habits and the incidence of acute appendicitis at Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Hospital, Samarinda. This analytical observational research using a cross-sectional method used 38 respondents obtained from the medical records of Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Hospital using a purposive sampling technique. Data on fiber and fast food eating habits were taken using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The majority of respondents' fast food eating habits were the habit of eating fast food frequently, namely 23 people (60.6%) with a p-value = 0.007. The incidence of acute appendicitis was found in 29 patients (76.3%). It was concluded that there was no relationship between the habit of eating fiber and the incidence of acute appendicitis, and there was a relationship between the habit of eating fast food and the incidence of acute appendicitis at Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Hospital, Samarinda.
